My shitty shimano brake pads have ever so lightly scored my rims, leaving a few rough areas on my rims.

Any advice on the best way to smooth theses rough areas out.

    fine wet and dry?

it's not the blocks that are the problem - it's the small pieces of metal they pick up off the rim, during braking. You have to pick them out regularly otherwise you'l quickly destroy your rims.

I'm servicing a mate's bike at the moment and he's been braking with metal in his blocks for about a year - oblivious to the fact that it is both noisy and damaging.

He'll soon pay attention when I tell him his rims are now shot and he'll have to fork out a hundred quid for some new ones....

Yeah i know its the small metal pieces off the rims that the pads pick up that cause the said damage, maybe ive been unlucky but my last 2 sets of Shimano pads have been real shocking for having metal embedded in them.
