Advice on crank set removal

I recently purchased a new crank set and i'm having trouble removing the old one! I've unscrewed the bolts that hold the crank arm and chain rings on but they are very very firmly attached!
Its a square fit bracket and i was thinking about using a blow torch on the old crank to heat it up so it will expand whilst gently tapping it with a hammer to get it off!
Does this sound a bit extreme?!! I can't think of another way around it, i wondered if there was any extractor type tools out there but can't see how one of those would work on the chain ring side as well????
Suggestions welcome!!!
Thanks in advance, J

I love the sound my tyres make on dusty single track!

you need a crank extractor.
have a look at the how toos on park tools linky in sig."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Halfords do em for less than a tenna. I got one the other day to remove my Deore cranks to put my old XT ones on (which annoyingly have the self extractor gubins and dont require a crank extractor!).
Really easy job. Get some grease while you are there if you dont have some already otherwise you'll have creaky cranks2010 Specialized Stumpjumper FSR Comp
