Orbea Onix, Opal, or Racelight KiC2?

Hi,

I haven't ridden for a couple of years, but want to get back into it, and feel the urge to have a new bike to start again with. :) I started a thread last week about the KiC2 compared to my Dyna Tech Titanium, and am very grateful for the help I received. However, I have now spent a lot of time looking at my options.

So, to start, My Dyna Tech is too big for me, and hence a little long in the top tube. I otherwise like it. It comes in at about 21 lbs all up, with Dura-ace 8 speed hubs and cassette, on Mavic Reflex SUP rims (like new), with Ultegra rear mech, 105 brakes, 105 front mech, and RSX Sti levers, along with junk stem and bars, and junk seatpost.

Plan 'A', was to build up all of the components onto a KiC2 frameset. But, now I have beeb looking at maybe fitting 10 speed components, which would inevitably mean getting a lot of Dura-ace bits, and possibly new wheels, but at least a new rear hub.

Plan 'B' is to get an Orbea Onix Tour in red, as I really like the looks, and the Ultegra is the best Shimano groupset option. The other variant of this is to get the cheapest Onix Bira, and upgrade everything, which seems pretty pointless given plan 'C'...

Plan 'C' is to go for an Orbea Opal with Dura-ace, and Mavic Ksyrium Elite (prob SL's), which would be pretty much my ideal chosen spec.

But, would an Opal be too harsh and racey given that it is supposed to be more rigid than the Onix? Would either of these be noticeably smoother than the KiC2? My Dyna Tech is to my mind very smooth and flexy, but don't know how this would compare to a modern bike? Of course, the Orbea's are probably both wasted on me, as I just want something to get back into shape on. I'm about 5'7" tall, 39 years old, pushing towards 13 stone, and not getting any slimmer ;) I don't need a high spec bike, I just love looks and quality of engineering, etc...

Any inspiration here would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,

Mike.
