Is an innertube just an innertube?

I want to buy some spare innertubes. Previously I've just got whatever my LBS had but I was wondering if there are any that are particular good (read light and puncture resistance).

Are there any brands that stand out or are they all much of a muchness?

Cheers.

Usually lighter = more puncture prone. Some ultra cheap ones have poor seams. I just get bog standard ones. You can get DH heavy duty types.

You can also get latex tubes which are meant to be more puncture resistant than boggo ones (more expensive though).

I have been using standard Specialized ones which seem to be decent quality, and be reasonably resilient, whilst not being too heavy. Also recently bought some Schwalbe SV14 tubes which only weigh 120g each and have a removable presta core, with which I might try with JRA wheel milk,as an experiment.

latex ones are ace. I had one in the front wheel for years. When I took my wheel in to my LBS to change a hub, they said that as soon as they released some pressure from the tube, it went completely flat. Turns out there had been a thorn stuck in the tyre for some time, which was sealing the hole in the innertube!

and, even better, it was BRIGHT PINK.
oh, and weighed nothing, whereas my current Nokian DH tubes weigh about a kilo :(
