The sponsor, Discovery Channel, quit the sport at the end of last season. The management company that ran the team, Tailwind Sports, decided to stop as they struggled to find a new sponsor.
As redddragon says, a lot of the management and the riders have now joined the Astana team.0 -

Discovery pulled the plug on their sponsorship at the end of last year. Bruyneel tried finding a new sponsor but couldn't, so the team folded and Bruyneel retired.
But then Astana went pear-shaped at the TdF last year and the Kazakhs offered Bruyneel a big chunk of cash to take control of the team, so he went to Astana and took a load of Discovery riders (Contador, Leipheimer, Brajkovic and more) with him.0 -
