i have mavic krysium sl's and on my last 2 rides have noticed a 'pinging' sound coming from the rear wheel . i have inspected it and cant see anything wrong or loose.
It is noticable when i get out of the saddle on hills to put more power down .
Any ideas ???????????
Will get it checked by lbs as its starting to drive me nuts!

I rode the Etape du Dales on Sunday, and noticed pinging from the rear krysium on a couple of bikes I passed on climbs. Sounds like loose spokes to me.

Spoke starting to fail I suspect - carry-on riding it and you'll find which one.

Nothing to worry about IMO. Mavic SLs are notorious for the dreaded 'ping' I have ES wheels and they ping every now and again and have done since new - still no probs after 2 years.

    I agree!

Twang the spokes, like a harp, and you'll probably find that some are very taut and others are loose. Get the LBS to re-tension them. The first time a spoke failed on me the other wheel went a few weeks later, so probably best to get both seen to.

I had this problem on my SL's last year.

The advice was a drop of lube on each spoke where it fits on the hub - this solved the problem. :D

My Campag Neutrons have done this as well. For my wheels, the answer was a drop of oil where the spokes crossed each other. It solved the problem!

trip to lbs solved it , as said above a small amount of lube to where the spokes meet the hub and bingo 'pinging free zone'

I can't help thinking that that's treating the symptom and not the cause.

Was the spoke tension OK then?

I found this happening on my Bonty race X-lites. It's where the spokes rub together, a bit of eletrical trape between them where they meet will sort the problem.
