Hi,

I'm looking to replace my rear shock.

My current OEM shock (X-Fusion) is 165mm eye to eye. However a replacement I'm looking at is 200mm eye to eye.

Maybe this one....

WHAT affect will a longer shock have on my bike?? I'm thinking of putting on longer forks in the future, will this balance it out??

Thanks, Jamie

nope you need a 165 i21 and the same stroke.

No way Pedro! You might get away with a 5mm increase in length but not 35mm! Just ain't happening, m'friend!

and even then there are many frame deigns that will not allow longer shocks as the design is at maximum extension with the current shock.

So back to a direct replacement.

Or give more info and then some correct info can be provided.

Also why do you want to change?

Maybe he wants a bit more travel at the back.
The new one has a 50mm stroke (if thats the travel).
The old one has 38mm stroke.
    What bike do you have?

It doesn't work like that though does it?!

Frames are designed to have a certain amount of rear travel. If you want mroe travel it's new frame/bike time.

If you just want an upgraded shock, then upgrade with something of the same dimensions.

Would there not be warranty issues with a longer shock? It's bound to change the stresses on the frame, isn't it?!

Depends totaly of the bike frame and where the shock is located.
Longer shock it will lift the middle area of the bike if the shock is there,
may also lift the bottom bracket, and may also change the angle of the fork.
It will look like a camel.
With new longer travel fork the fork angle will get back the same as the old one,
but bike will be higher of the ground, as well as the center of gravity.
Is this statement true? I think so, because it's all about physics, and maths.
Please someone, confirm or deny this.

The handling of the bike I don't know how it will be because I've never tryed this.

will also increase the chain grow, may cause interference between parts. may cause wheel seat post contact. will make the bike unstable and dangerous to ride.

If you want to start a topic about fitting different length shocks to bike please do.

Otherwise please keep poorly informed "advice" out of the Technical section.

Op start the topic again if you wish.

Xtreem if you wish start a new one.
