Split tyre

Hi,

During a ride this weekend, my front tye got sliced by something on the road along with the inner tube. I was lucky enough to get a spare tube from another rider, however, I am wondering whether the tyre is repairable or if I should replace it?

The slit is about one centimetre long, just off the top.

Any advice would be very welcome.

Thanks

I would replace the tyre, you can get some good deals on line. A couple of weeks ago I bought a pair of Continental Ultra Sports with tubes delivered to my door for £31. I have done about 600 miles and they show no sign of cuts. I have used other cheap tyres and they seem to cut quite quickly.
  • You could probably repair it with a tyre boot or something like that. But, personally, I wouldn't. Tyre integrity is potentially all that stands between you and a horrible accident. If I repaired a tyre, I'd just be worrying about it all the time.

Save the dodgy tyre for winter to use on an indoor trainer :)

Thanks for the advice guys. The tyre is only a Mitchelin Lithion and at £16 is not worth the risk. Like you say, even if repaired, there is always the niggling doubt in the back of your mind.

New tyre it is - thanks again.
