Hi, Newbie to the site here, well here she is, took delivery last week, its a Scott Scale 70

Have ridden about 10 miles or so far in the evenings and I'm really happy with it, feels really responsive, its just my fitness that's lacking!

Initial plans are to get an Easton riser bar as I don't really get on with the flat bar, and possibly a shorter stem.

Please let me know what you think!!

Mike

Looks very good, mainly because I like Scott bikes. :D
And yes, the flat handlebar is realy ugly. I hate flat handlebars
because they remind me on something old. You should definetly
    change that.

Nice bike. Scotts always look so good!

I'm also going for low risers on my new bike I am getting tomorrow.

think your first purchase should be some decent flats (or clipin).

Nice bike (but then I own a Scott too)

Change the bar, pedals and watch for slip on the grips too

I love the yellow detailing on the frame. Reminds me of a wasp.

I like the way the frame fades to white at the back, to match the forks. Nice colour combo!

I agree on the bars and stem, a set of riser bars will make it a bit more comfortable.

Love Scott Scales - just like Stumpjumpers a tiny bit more.

Get some nice pedals (those are similar to the joke ones that came on our Rockhopper Disk) and keep the flat bars - I prefer them. Possibly get a shorter stem at some stage though.

    Have fun!

Thanks for the comments! dead chuffed as it seems I picked a good 'un..

I too love the styling, especially the colour scheme...loving the wasp reference there

Pedals are on the cards at some point, but for now I can't really see a problem with the flats I've got?! Seem to do the job...

Will hopefully get out on a real long ride sometime, cant wait..Oh - must buy a helmet too. The 'to buy' list just goes on and on!

Mikey - the pedals will do for now, but as soon as it gets wet, they'll be very slippery.
Get DMR V8s (ir the Wellgo versions) if you want flats, ask others for advice if you want SPDs!

Helmet shouldn't be more than £40 unless you want a silly one that's a gram lighter with an extra vent or two.

cheers matt, have my eye on some shimano spd's possibly, but not for a while so will get some advice at a later date. will try and look for a shoe/pedal combo deal?

helmet wise, been looking at giro / fox ones for around £40 anyway! so i'm glad you said that as its just confirmed my price limit!

Also, I have someone who's told me that carbon bars / stems are not actually worth the extra buck as they are more prone to breaking. Now I'm unsure what to upgrade to! Think I might just do it anyway tbh...I want light

The handlebar does the job but it's just ugly.
I cant stand it flat handlebars.
If they don't look ugly for you don't change it.
Anyone agrees with me about the ugly handlebars?

    Errmmm - not really.

My Stumpys both have flat handlebars (although a bit higher spec) and they look fine - nice and tapered and light. At least they won't snap like carbon ones

    Hi mikeyb_lyd nice bike.

If you are going to get a new handlebar I would definately consider carbon. I bought a carbon handlebar for my winter bike and it made alot of difference in terms of the vibrations it soaked up. It was an Easton, although I am not sure what model exactely. It is 25.4mm and just says monkey lite sl on it

Picture of logo on bar is here
