Can I just mention that I love the pictures of the expeditions you guys at the South Lakes group do? I can? Great...I just love.... well you know the rest. It makes me quite jealous looking at some of the excellent stuff you all do by the way.************************
Your optimism strikes me like junk mail addressed to the dead.0 -

Did you actually ride any of it? or did you push the bike the entire way ??
Seriously - how long did it take from start to finish as will be in the lakes in September and it looks like a classic route0 -
Hi Brains,
Yes you can ride quite a bit of the route and this depending on sort of bike you going to use, I now posted a tracklogs route file on the past rides reports of 2008 page for anyone to download, we were out for about 8 hours from the start to finish of the ride from Ringwood Carpark on the road on East shore of Coniston Water this includes three stops for refreshments.
If you going to do the ride and follow the route we did my your self I would think you would able to do it in 5 to 6 hours or even quicker.

Thanks for the info
1 - How did you get back to the start ? (are there any bike friendly busses ?)
2 - Would you/could you do it on a couple of flat barred touring bikes with mudguards and touring tyres ?0 -
The answer question number 2 is yes has there was person on touring bike on the ride you may have to walk few more sections.
With regarding question one the South Lakes Group usually start its rides from carparks where we can get free parking. So there nothing stopping you from starting in Coniston then going over Walna Scar Road, then follow the bridleway Walna Scar Quarries to Stephenson Ground, then followed the bridleway from Water Yeat Bridge to Hummer Lane, then followed hummer Lane and the A593 into Torver. From Torver you can follow the cycle path along the lake shore back to Coniston or follow the bridleway from Torver to Mill Bridge then over Torver Low Common to Tottle Bank then drop down to the A5084 and follow this to Water Yeat. At Water Yeat follow the road back up the East Shore Coniston Water back to Coniston.0
