What backpack

I am just starting to get more miles in on my mtb rather than roadbike and It became obvious quite quickly that a bottle in a cage gets covered in mud along with the mini pump. Also a puncture showed just how pathetic a mini pump is filling a 26x2.35 tyre. So it seems a hydration pack with space for spares, pump etc would fix these problems but what one to choose there seem to be hundreds, any recommendations please.

I prefer going simple and light, packs can be annoying and heavy.
I would consider how much water, you plan to take and go from there, that should eliminate a few. I have two Camelbaks, the smaller one takes 1litre and the the other 3litres. To be honest I wish I had something in between.
Then how much you plan to put in it. Multi tool, Pump, Spare tube,Banana, Jacket and few small misc.
Dont need to much else, see if all that fits and that should eliminate a few more.
I have always been a fan of Camelbaks.

I cant reccomend Daxine Apex's (or Dakines in general) enough - They're an amazing pack - small enough when its empty (not much bigger than the nomad - But boy can you fit aload of stuff in it plus (unlike camelbaks) you can see they've really thought about the design - You have two side pockets with dual openings (top opening fleece lined) - A fleece lined one at the top for glasses, camera etc..the tool pocket is huge with 2 zip mesh pockets a pump holder and a large mesh pocket for tubes - Then you have the large section which easily fits over trousers and Jacket with plenty of room to spare for food etc.. - It has an an independant pocket for the bladder (with detachable tube so no rethreading) and if you need more space theres one more pocket between the bladder and the back pad.

I got a Gelert backpack with bladder for about £15 new on ebay and can recommend it.
Works fine and the price is a bonus.0 -
i have just picked up a berghaus freeflow 20 with 2ltr camelbak bladder. plenty of space for gear inc bulkier stuff like layers or even a dslr but very compact when there's not much in it and the design keeps the pack off your back so it's ventilated.0

Just bought a Camelbak Mayhem. 3l bladder and enough space to stash pump, tube, tools and a bit of food. Also has a padded compartment in the top for a digital camera/camcorder and a stretchy mesh netting section to hold a waterproof jacket.
Very impressed with it.Kona Dawg Deluxe ('07)

Being a biker on a budget... :? I picked up a hydration pack from Tesco last night for £10....
They have two sorts in so be very careful. One is just the hydration (1.5ltr) and thats it for £10, the other is 1.5ltr hydration and another 4.5 litres storage split between three pockets.
For £10 you can't really go wrong. Looks nice enough, should fit in a pump, couple of tubes, light jacket, couple of tools and few bits of food so all I need really so its nice and compact too.0 -
Got mine from Tesco too,I've used it a couple of times and its easy to fill/clean,comfy,well padded, stays put,the valve works well and it has plenty of room for everything, for £10 its a steal.0
