Suspension Folk Removal. Help Please!!

Hi there. Just picked my self up a second hand bike and am going to re-spray the frame. Problem is, I cant remove the front folks. As far as I remember, its a case of bashing the top of them once the handlebar stem is removed. Am I correct?
