Not hugely techy, but I got one of those neoprene chainstay protectors on a steel frame, should I take it off when not in use or can I just leave it on all the time.

Leave it on, no reason to take it off.....

No reason to take it off. I use electrical insulation tape myself. Duck tape would also work. Some people use an old innertube.

I take it off every 5 rides or so just to clean it but otherwise its a permanent fixture.

i give mine a soak in persil or similar every 3 months or so, then it goes straight back on.
