Hi all,

Does anyone know of any decent bike shops in the costa del sol, I am over there in a weeks time for a family holiday in our family home over there. Staying halfway between Malaga and Marbella. There is so much cycling in Spain and in all the years I have been going there I have yet to come across a decent bike shop other than crappy low end bike/sports sections in the big touristy department stores. Wherever I travel I always like to pick up some kit, as you can occassionaly pick up some unusual kits not available at home.

Thanks all

    DTM12!

Unfortunately it's not really a 'local' bike shop, but in Puerto Lumbreras in the Murcia province is a very good bike shop.
It's owned by a fella called Manola who was a bit of a tasty cyclist himself, so he knows what's what.
It on the right hand side of the road heading north down towards the rambla where they often have markets.
Could be a nice day-trip from your base.
    Good luck!
    I get knocked down . . . but I get up again . . .

There is a new bike shop just opened (2007) in Marbella. It looks like they know what there are doing, judging by their website (in Spanish only). They also hire out road bikes.
    http://www.bikemarbella.com/bikestation/

You can also run a search on Spanish Yellow Pages for Malaga province.

It lists 51 establishments, although some of the entries are scooter orientated, car hire companies also hiring bikes and other shops selling bikes. I would look for the words venta (sales) reparacion (repair) and alquiler (hire) to identify the businesses which may be suitable as an all round bike shop.

SYPages lists the following towns with bike services. (No of businesses)

    Alhaurín de la Torre (1)
    Antequera (1)
    Fuengirola (5)
    Malaga (18)
    Marbella (3)
    Mijas (2)
    Torremolinos (1)
    Vélez-Málaga (2)
The more you spend - the faster you go - the less you see.

Cheers guys, thats given me a head start. I always like to look out for some kit when I am away, just to be a bit different when I get home

hi dayvo, is that in the city of Murcia itself, or is it an outlying town?

do you ride in the murcia area? i go on holiday to a house in torrevieja and do a lot of riding down towards murcia including the cabeza de la plata climb, and also in the sierra espuna. nice place for riding your bike!

    Hola Fat Head! :P

I spent four months at my mate's place a few years ago (he lives in Cantoria, near Albanchez) and I did a lot of riding around Albox, Huercal Overa and Almeria.
Yes, it is indeed a very good place to go for a long ride. Great coffee stops and CHEAP cognac!

    Sorry, didn't answer your question!
No, it's just south of Lorca, so about 40-5- minutes from Murcia - by car!

I don' t think the sol is that popular with road biking. It appears to be far too hilly and mountainous back from the coast. Don't see many bike teams out there. I tried to find a road bike hire shop at Easter and was unsuccessful. There is a good one just off the main shopping street in Torremolinos but he only does MTBs.
