Sram twist shifter or Shimano shifter pods

Hi,
I am struck with a dilema. I want to upgrade my shifters, but don't know where to go. Can anyone help?
I fancy some LX/XT shifter pods but also like the sram twist grip. Which setup is lighter and more durable for every day use and long xc rides at the weekend?

i use sram x.o grip shifts and think they are brilliant, give excellent shifts everytime and are really intuitive to use.

they were about 40 quid for the pair when i bought them which was a bargain but i dont know how much they are now.

dont forget though that if you are using shimano at the moment, you would need a new rear mech if you want to use sram (the front will be fine though) this would make for quite an expensive upgrade.

Many thanks, I will keep this in mind when considering. Not so clued up with the sram gear... Am I correct in thinking that the X0 is the top group?

Correct. Also the grip shifters are lighter - only problem some find is that you can cahnge accidently when pulling on the bars. I like them, but prefer triggers overall.

Do the sram X0 compare to the XTR?

This is a contentious subject. SRAM pitch the XO at the XTR, and the X9 at the XT, but if you look at the prices, X9 is the same as XTR, and X7 is the same as XT. Gripshift however seems to be a lot cheaper anyway.

  • Never been a fan of gripshift myself. If I were you I'd forget about the weight difference and go for the one which was more comfortable to use.
