How do you insure your bike? Part of the home contents policy or unique insurance? I keep my bike in the house but my home insurers still want it padlocked to the wall! Any recommendations?

  • You can take out specific insurance through companies that specialise in bike cover. When I looked into it, they required quite a lot of 'security' in terms of locks, where it was kept etc and I felt not good value (especially as I had 2 bikes). They advertise in the bike mags and probably on this website.

I got mine done with our home/contents policy. No extra. Both bikes covered for theft. No special requirements about where they are kept. I don't think they are covered away from the house but that's a risk I'll have to take.#

It may be worth changing your home insurance to get them covered on that.

Marks and Spencer home insurance usually gets recommenced. They will cover bike up to £4k without having to list them. This question comes up quite regularly so might be worth you searching the forum.
