How do you wash your bib shorts?

I've just been washing mine this morning which I do by putting them in the shower and using its most powerful setting to really force the water through them a bit. However I was thinking while I was doing this is there any better way to get them clean? They really aren't the kind of thing you want dirty at all.

I had a pair a while ago that went through the washing machine (can't remember who made them but they weren't the best around) and when they came out the padded insert was wrinkled and shrunk. I thought they might improve once they'd dried but they never did. Didn't even want to try wearing them looking like that. Ever since I've steered clear of the washing machine.

All my Assos, dhb, Descent shorts/tights have been fine going through the washing machine.

Yep - everything goes in a 30 degree wash, never had any issues (no fabric softner though). If the insert shrunk I'd guess you had it too high a heat.
Carlsberg don't make cycle clothing, but if they did it would probably still not be as good as Assos

Fair enough, I've got a pair of dhb at the moment so I'll try those in the wash, I always thought the shower approach was a bit long winded.

I put my dhb winter tights, club short (Imp sport) and other shorts (briko, and halfords horrible) all through the washing machine on an acrylic setting, and knock the spin speed to 800 rpm max. Wash my shorts with tops/gloves/base layers etc and use a standard non bio tab (only one tho not 2). Never had a problem with any of them.

I wash these things in the synthetic cycle in cold water. When I mean cold, I don't mean 30C, I mean straight the tap. I also use a handwash detergent, like Woolite.

I have a shower after a ride and throw my shorts in at the same time and give them a rinse afterwards. I do put them through the machine sometimes and have had no problems. The only kit I have a problem with is my favourite base layer has developed a smell of its own and I think I may have to pension it off or my daughter will not come near me; post ride she says I stink.

30 degree wash in the machine with non-bio liquid (not for any scientific reasons, I'm allergic to the biological stuff) and a full blown 1600 spin.

    good as new.

30deg wash to although I only do a short 800rpm spin as they dry so fast anyway I figure there's not much point on a high rpm spin which could cause more wear (I mix them with cycling tops with zips etc to, I guess if you only have the bib shorts in the wash the spin speed isn't going to make much difference in terms of wear).

My Assos bibs came in a wee netted wash bag that I put them in and into a 30deg wash, no worries.
