Hi,

I now have got my bike :D but next I need some shoes. The bike has come with Shimano 105 pedals and I have up to £40 to spend on a pair of shoes that will be used for training, time trials and general road racing, what are your recommendations?

Thanks,

Jonny

I'd guess you are limited to either Shimano, Nike on special offer or DHB (from wiggle).
Please look at my handmade cycling cufflinks

What are the DHB shoes like they have got great reviews so far?
Would you rate them over Shimano shoes at the same price?

    Thanks,

    Jonny

Dhb's can only be bought from Wiggle - scored 10/10 in C+ this month (not that the score's mean much). Parker's have some Adidas and Shimano at goods prices
Carlsberg don't make cycle clothing, but if they did it would probably still not be as good as Assos

Try ribble - I am sure they had an offer for Shimano R099 SPD-SL @ £50

I've got a pair of the DHB R1s. As you'd expect, they can't compete with the more expensive carbon soled shoes, but for the money they're a steal. I've had mine for around 2 months, and have been really pleased with them.

Obviously the fit is going to be important so I "should" try them on, but surely there are opinions on what are good and what are not?

    Thanks,

I wouldn't buy shoes mail order, you *have* to try them on.
Fit is far more critical than jerseys or shorts.

Someone else saying 'these are really comfortable' is of no use to you because you'll have different shaped feet !

Mail order's only good if you've had a particular shoe before and are just buying a replacement pair, know your size, know they'll fit, etc.

    YES ME!

Sorry, i recently brought the shimano R098 shoes from chain reaction cycles, cheapest i could find. Theyre pretty good (remember for shimano buy 1 size bigger than you usually would). Only probs i found were that they felt a bit cheap and plasticy, however i've never used other road shoes before so i wouldn't know. Theyre nice looking shoes in that range (except for inside of outer shoe where theres black sides). I've got the blue silver version. I guess you should go try these shoes at an lbs and see which ones are the best (viper doesnt look too bad). Funny enough im using them with shimano 105 pedal too :) o they fit nicely. You can get similar shimnano shoes for a tenner more which have a proper high strap and carbon insole however i don't know how much better that is.
