Hey this may sound like stupid question but could any one tell me how i can make my hydraulic xt disk brakes have bit more bite. They are brand new and i like them to be bit more grabbing, i know there is time to bed them in but im out most of the time on my bike and think they should of bedded in by now. I also know is no air in themas they dont feel spongy and that there is no contamination on the pads or rotors, how ever the rotors are of an old Shimano cable disk brakes 160 size. I am going to get larger rotors anyway soon, so can i adust the pads or is reccomened to maybe check oil level. I bought them a month ago from Merlins, if any one can help be great.

shimano brakes have a soft feel thats not a bad thing they are just different to say avids I am a big fat 16 stones with my full riding kit on I have the same brakes as you with a 180mm front disc and they haul me up just fine my mate jezz who is a skinny arse has avid juicy 7s on his bike and he cant stop any quicker than me

get yourself a 180mm disc and you should be fine after all the athertons used shimano xt 2007 brakes last year and they did okay

Ok thanks guys, so yeah im def getting 180 rotors for front and should i get one for rear aswell?. Im always flying around very quick on my bike so def need bit stopping power. I didnt manage to get Hope Mono m4s what i was originally after and cool if Athertons used them, then their good enough for me....Cheers :)

stick with a 160 mm disc on the back too much power on the back and you will just lock up all the time

when you have fitted your new discs degrease them with meths or IPA alchohol also degrease the pads then make sure make sure you bed in the new discs and pads

find a bit of downhill tarmac or fireroad with a grippy surface and ride down and hammer the brakes get them good and hot pour water on the discs and hammer down again do this 5 or 6 times and you will feel the power and feel get better and better

then go out and enjoy :D

OK thanks again and will do, 180 F and 160 rear also will try the method of heating up brakes and pouring water on also i have a disk brake cleaner to spray and then wipe of any contaminates well that solves this one...... oh and i know i need to order adaptor to fit front calipers with forks when i get 180 rotors i can sort that. Thanks all
