Elswick Super Sport

Has anybody heard of / know anything about this bike? What kind of frame / components were on it?

I've found one for sale for £40. Is it worth that?

Elswick made I think mostly run-of-the-mill stuff. IF this was top-end would need to know year etc to have a guess at components - and most of course will usually have been changed over time.

I guess if structurally sound and goes and stops then 40 quid ain't exactly a lot of money. Unless it has chromed steel rims in which case unless all the rest is very good I wouldn't pay a solitary quid. But then I haven't seen the bike....

Not sure about the super sport, but I would like an Elswick Hopper Lincoln Imp, with a Benelux rear mech. My dad rode one in his youth, did a 'Tour of France' and lost it when he left it propped outside a shop one day, always watch them on ebay with an eye to reuniting him with it.

  • Tonight, thanks to FREECYCLE I have just picked up an Elswick, not been ridden for a while, but with abit of air in the tyres made it around the block, it's Blue with gold lug lining, no transfers, has the Seahorse head badge Frame No. on seat tube 64 396.
5 speed with Huret rear mech.
Does anybody know what models they were making in ?1964?
Photos posted on Flickr if that helps.
    Thanks for any help.

  • Wasn't Elswick something to do with Falcon at some point? The sound Elswick Falcon really rings some bells from my youth. But that was sometime after 1964 ...
Never be tempted to race against a Barclays Cycle Hire bike. If you do, there are only two outcomes. Of these, by far the better is that you now have the scalp of a Boris Bike.
