Mavic Crossride compatibility with 7-speed cassette

Forgive my ignorance, but, despite looking at the Mavic website, and browsing my Parks manual I remain confused by specifications and compatibilities!
I have a 21-speed MTB and need to replace the rear wheel. I'll also replace the cassette, chainset and chain at the same time, but cannot afford to replace the gear shifting stuff.
The question is, can a Shimano 7-speed cassette be mounted on a Mavic Crossride or do I expect to hit problems? The Mavic website says it is compatible with M10 (Shimano, Sram), but I don't understand whether this is enough info to answer my question [M10 = 10-speed?]
Thanks in advance,
Martin

you will need to use a spacer to take up the extra space.
the cross ride is 8/9 spd ready bur will take a 7spd if the 7spd spacer is fitted. Hope do one."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Thanks, Nicklouse, for your quick and helpful response. This is exactly the kind of confident advice that I love about this forum.0
