Old Bar Tape

Does anyone have any good tips for removing old bar tape adhesive from bars. I am upgrading my Sora's to Tiagra, and replacing the tape in the process. After removing the old bar tape, it has left patches of old tape and adhesive on the bars, which I want to remove before I put the new tape on. Any ideas? Would nail varnish remover do it?

WD40 does the trick, still needs a bit of elbow grease though.

A drop of paraffin, petrol or diesel oil on a rag will remove it.

Similarly white spirit will too. Can also bring up white bar tape quite well too.

Commend WD40 too - use a small wad of wire wool (gently) to free up the gunge!
