Hi,
I am looking into getting a bike which is for sale very close to me, it's a Bianchi Via Nirone 7 Aluminium Carbon Ultegra/ 105 Double 2006. This will be my first proper road bike and I will be using it for some time trials and general road racing and training, is this bike a reasonable choice for this?
Thanks,
Jonny

I had a Bianchi 1885 (which is the next model up) with Ultegra and that's what got me loving road riding. I don't there is much difference between that and the newer Nirone that you are talking about (the Nirone didn't have carbon stays then) apart from the manufacturing process.
Personally I think the key thing is whether it fits you properly, assuming the price is right. Ultegra is great reliable kit. If it's got stock wheels on, they will be heavy ( > 2kg). One other thing, a lot of Bianchis take a really weird seatpost size that no-one makes (31.4 IIRC), so you will probably need to shim it to something sensible if you want to change the seatpost.
Hope that helps.0 -
OK just checked the 2006 catalogue and the wheels are better than I thought albeit entry level. They'll be Shimano R500s if stock items.
Also the downtube is 35mm, so I don't know what size post it'll take!0 -
Hi,
Yes the wheels are Shimano R500s, and the stock saddle has been upgraded to a new Fizik, and he has also recently replaced the chain and cassette which is always a good thing for a slightly older bike. I will be going to have a test ride of it, but was mainly trying to confirm that it is as it looks, more of a racer than the new C2C Via Nirones with their relaxed geometry?
Thanks,

The 2006 frame is more of a standard shape than the newer Via Nirone (which is now classed as C2C). You can tell as the 2007/2008 C2C Alu/Carbon Via Nirones have a curved top tube. The geometry doesn't actually appear to have changed (although the text is hard to read).0

Where have you seen the geometry for the bike, I cannot seem to find it on the Bianchi website?

You can download a catalogue from the top right of that page, or view the spec online (RC section).
Edit: You'll have to download the catalogue to get the Geometry.
