Carrera bike frame cracking - how long is the guarantee?

I have a Carrera Virtuoso from Halfords which is about 4 years old. I has just developed a crack in the frame starting under the seat colar and working its way downwards.
How long do they guarantee frames for? I may still have the original receipt etc but have not found it yet. I did call one branch today but didn't really get any help.
Still thinking!

I think they guarantee the aluminium frames for only 2 years

I was thinking of my options as follows:
1 = get a replacement frame from Halfords if the warranty has not run out!
2 = If it has run out would it be feasible to hacksaw off just below the cracked area as a temporary measure until I can save up to get a really nice new bike or frame or would it continue to fail?
3 = Buy the best frame I can afford now and switch parts over then upgrade as money allows.
    What do you think?

Hi, one way to stop it cracking is to drill a small hole just below the direction of the crack. This should stop it going any further. Did this on an old steel frame many many years ago, had it welded and when I retired it last year it was still fine.

I wouldn't mess about doing option 2, if the frame is cracking in one place I reckon there's a good chance it'll fail in others.

You could always get a ribble winter trainer frame, comes to £140 delivered with a headset and it's pretty good quality - it's actually taking over from my Virtuoso in the commuting and winter roles .
