Long seatposts for long legs

Hiya,

Having finally got out on my new Scott S30 Flat Bar last week I have found to my dismay that the seat post needs to go up about another 2 inches but the post is already at it's maximum height.

So, I'm looking for a new post and would like to go to 400mm to be sure I'm going to get the height I need. Looking around the items listed as Road Bike stems, I'm struggling to get anything that long so it's looking like being something designed for MTB use but as I'm over 17 stone in weight I think that may be a good thing.

I have been looking at a Ritchey Pro Carbon on Ebay for just under £50 and there was a ControlTech carbon post on ChainReactionCycles last week for £45 but I've had to wait till I get paid and that post is no longer in the sale and has gone back up to £109

Before I start spending money, I wondered if anyone has any suggestions or knows of something I've not looked at. I don't really want to spend shedloads of cash but realise that to get something strong and reliable then I may have to.

IMO you won't do much better than a Thomson Elite, particualrly at that length and rider size. Depending on diameter / length, you can get them from ~£65.

Second vote for the Thomson. Cheapest place may well be Ebay, but check shop prices as well.

Lowest shop price I've seen in the size I need is £62.99 at Wiggle but there 's one on Ebay that ends in a couple of days and it's still at £11 quid. I'm gonna keep an eye on that and see how much it is when it closes. I need to check the tech drawings on the Thompson website and make sure I can get the amount of useable post I need.
