Look Keo vs Delta

Over the winter I upgraded my pedals to Look Keo from old delta cleat Look.
By a complicated turn of events I ended up with an old hack that I hadn't put new pedals on as my only available steed last weekend.

I rummaged in the attic and found my old shoes (Sidi Genius II in blue and luminous pink and yellow very nostalgia inducing)

I discovered to my shock that the old style pedals were noticeably easier to get in to and frankly once in I didn't notice a great difference.

I've stuck my old style pedals on my commuter for now as it's brought back a little confidence as I pull away from the lights.

Does anybody else feel the same? Am I doing something wrong with the Keos?

I'm toying with going back to deltas all round but that seems a shame after laying out cash on two pairs of pedals already.

I wouldn't know about Keos but I still use the Delta cleats as I have always been happy riding with these, along with older style Look pedals.

I guess I shall have to go onto the Keo pedals and cleats simply because you can't seem to get hold of the older style pedals anymore. Which is a shame imo.

I found the same, the delta's are easier to clip in and out of that the Keo's are. But my feet feel more secure in the Keo's

But this could also be because my Delta's have done alot of miles and are a bit tired..

Isn't this the reason lots of people prefer the Time pedals? Basically the same as the looks but easier clipping in and out...

time pedals are NOT easy to clip into - easy enough to get out of, but not into!

They do however, feel great when in use!

I think the Keos are marginally more difficult to clip in than the Deltas - but still pretty easy - and they feel more secure where the Deltas used to get a bit loose when the cleats wore.

it's a hard life if you don't weaken.

Does anyone know of any dealers in UK with old stock (but new!) of Look pedals ie. 206, 236 etc. These were excellent pedals!

Hi, I've just made the switch from Delta to Keo recently (vain attempt to get up hills easier as they're lighter). Keos harder to get into compared to Deltas. I'm sure it'll get better with practice!
I'm sure you'll find loads of Delta compatible pedals for sale cheaply, esp 2nd hand, and you can still get cleats which are reduced as well.

I thought the same initially, but 6 months down the line I'm still fumbling on Keos yet straight in on the old Deltas

Hmmm... Look are you reading this?

The tension on the Keo's has improved heaps compared to the Deltas. But then again, everyone had their deltas for so long that the cleats have worn in a lot more than a newer Keo cleats making all the difference.

have a look at http://www.look-pedals.com for some info on the tension.

Have a look at Ribble - they seem to have 2 or 3 types of non-Keo Looks.
  • check BBB site

    www.bbbparts.com

BBB Roaddynamic (BPD-05) is fully compatible with classic LOOK Delta

I use Time and Look Keo and agree the time pedals are more difficult to clip into.
Overall I prefer my Time pedals because the cleats don't wear out every 5 Min's and start squeaking.

I have the Ritchey Pro Pelotons, and Looks (delta) on the commuter ... I've never seen any reason to change. I haven't seen anywhere for cheap cleats though (as mentioned in earlier post). Mine don't squeak !
.. who said that, internet forum people ?

I used to use Look Delta but switched to Time pedals about 7 or 8 years ago.
The old Impact ones were a nightmare to get into. The RXS is a lot better alnd the cleats last forever.
I personally wouldn't go back to using Look as i find Time ar a bit more forgiving on the knees.

I'd rather quit than buy from Halfords
  • I noticed a number of people mentioning the squeak you can get with Look Delta cleats. This is very easily remedied and you don't have to spend money buying Keos. Basically all you need to do is rub some vaseline (petroleum jelly), or even massage oil into the toe of the cleat and the squeak is gone; usually forever. As to why, best to ask Look; but obviously something to do with the type of plastic they use.

Graham weight cycles had a few sets in last time I was in there.Best to call them as their website doesn't show everything.

I changed from Delta to Keo.My Deltas A5.1 were so hard to clip into and out of which is why I upgraded.I did have some other deltas which were very easy to use though.
I think it all comes down to which model you have.

If oyu buy Delta cleats buy the ones with the teflon inser, not only do they last longer but also stops alot of the squeaking

yeah thanks Wippy, tried Graham Weight earlier this year without any success. Guess e-bay is the only way I'll get another pair of 236s.
  • I find that the keo cleats wear a lot faster than the delta.

Once the the rubber is worn out they go down hill quickly. Especially on my right cleat the one I put down first when I stop.
Racing is rubbish you can\'t relax and enjoy it- because some bugger is always trying to get past.
  • I found some Look Delta compatible pedals brand new through E-bay. High on bikes was the shop if i remember correctly.

I eventually bought a set of second hand pedals, but ther does sem to be some demand for the old style pedals. Take note all those with sets cluttering up the garage.
