Am I the only person who wears track mitts any more? No one else seems to bother, even the pros
Yet everyone wears helmets, but the probability is that in a spill, you're more likely to hurt your hands...
(PS: I wear a lid as well)

I never go out without mitts. Too many memories of plucking small bits of gravel out of my palms when I was a kid!0

I wear gloves, not to protect myself in case of a crash but to stop my hands aching during a ride. Probably best not to mention helmets!Bianchi Via Nirone Veloce/Centaur 20100

Wear gloves (fingerless Spesh BG Pro in most weathers, Altura Night Vision waterproofs when it's really cold or wet) all the time - I think they take the edge of any numbness and are good for wiping off snot and sweat0

I wear my Cannondale Mitts every ride, they are great, very light and breatheable!Full Susser - GT I-Drive XCR 5
Hardtail - GT Aggressor XC 2
Road Bike - GT GTR Series 40 -
Always wear them
Getting some great tan lines as a result"Impressive break"

Often unhelmeted, never without mitts, or gloves come winter.
For some reason, wearing mitts or gloves makes riding feel more serious... heaven knows why."Consider the grebe..."0 -

After years of wearing useless ones with fabric that fell apart and gel that collapsed after a couple of months I splashed out on some Rapha Grand Tour mitts a couple of years back. Lots and lots of use and they are better than new and fit, well, like a glove. Taking everything into account, much cheaper than the fabric ones.
Use them every day when it's warm enough.
Interesting tan pattern, though.0 -
On my bike, I always wear gloves (or mitts) and helmet.
I've never fallen on my head, but sometimes on my hands (and knees...).0 -
...not when it's sunny 8) ...they absolutely ruin my tan darling 8) ...wear 'em all other times though......all the way...'til the wheels fall off and burn...0

Always. Hands are always the first thing to hit the deck.0

Hmmm...seem to have totally misjudged this one...but I still maintain I'm the only person in Aylesbury and London who uses them...at least on my routes...at my travel times (goes off in search of JCB to dig deeper hole)

I go without for lots of short local journeys but then remember the old gravel palms as mentioned above for anything more than a couple of miles!0

I used to have a pair of old-fashioned Agu string back ones, they were ace, lasted forever, but one day when skirting down the inside of traffic (I know, I know) someone opened a door in front of me...I hit the door and the deck, and tore 2mm deep holes in the leather of my mitts
I wouldn't ever NOT wear mitts after that little experience (ironically right outside an A&E department)

To anyone who doesnt ware mits/gloves - have you ever come off at any speed?
I went down at about 18mph (obviously not that fast) wearing full finger gloves. Ended up sliding on my side, back of my hand against the road. Despite the gloves it looked like I'd been punching breeze blocks. Without gloves? I think I'd have been looking at my knuckle bones...
