You all know the Avalanche specs :)

2005 Trek EX7...

Rock Shox REBA (Front)
Rock Shox Rear (no idea what the stock model is)
(both have lock on them)

Bontrager Race Lite wheels, new tubeless tyres
Bontrager XXX Carbon handlebars & stem
XT Pedals
XT front and rear mechs
Hayes hydraulic calibers (no idea which model)
Shimano centrelocks
Chris King headset

Can pick this up from a very nice guy for £450. From what he said, £450 seems to be a bit of a bargain, thats what the handlebar, stem and wheels cost new.

Thoughts? I'd rather give the cash to a friend, just wondered if the parts will have another 5+ years of life in them.

It is a good price for the kit listed. If it is all in good condition, and you are willing to have no warranty, then could be worth a punt.

Parts wear out though - things like chain, cassette, brake pads etc may only last months, and I'd doubt you'd get 5 years out of the rest unless well serviced.

Yes very good point. Do you think full suss is a tad overkill for someone who'll be either on the road or XC (at most)? My instincts think that may be the case...

Yes... but this bike will probably be lighter than a new hardtail for the price!

However, IIRC, the frame was very flexy. It's a good deal, but whether it is right for you is a different matter.

It is very light indeed. Will take them both out for a spin and see what happens. Thanks again for your help.
