thought this was technical enough to post here

Just saw this pic in bikeradar and was wondering why the fork is at such a steep angle... As I gather, all mountain forks are a big steeper than XC and DH but is this extreme or normal? If it is normal, what's the advantagE??

Because the bike is tilted in the stand?!

But yes, the fork and bike do make for a 'steep' headangle - this quickens steering, but makes it less stable, and more twitchy. DH riders like the stabilty of slacker forks, as do many trail riders - also going down a hill with a steep angle puts all your weight right over the front!

    and? look normal.

    more like sandbox material.

  • I have no idea what a sandbox really is. I'm not really interneticly minded.

I was only surprised to see that the end of the fork stanchions (do I mean stanchions?) are dead in line with the top of the steerer and middle of the headset. just seemed odd that you could draw a line all the way down.

Does anyone know what forks they are??

The fork is offset at the hub. You may want to look up the words 'fork trail' for more precise info on this which will also explain head angles.

The fork is the newest RS SID

    they are not in line.

steerer to staintion 9mm offset. steerer to drop out 39mm

    same as the reba's.

Now it may just be me,but I thought that AM forks were slacker than XC but not as slack as DH (generally speaking).?

    correct. ish.

at max compression they are all about the same..... but rear sus can totally change this as you bring more variables to the table.

Sorry to interrupt the flow of this thread, but the title just made me think of the classic Two Ronnies sketch. Fork Handle/ Four Candles :wink:

I think these do have less trail than normal, aren't they the GF HiFi geometry special edition Rockshox?

Edit: G2 geometry is its name apparently. See http://www.fisherbikes.com/bike/model/caliber-xc/tech/4
