The Pro Tour - Still alive
Well, it is to the UCI

Looks like we're on track for some races in China and Russia that no one will care about.

So on top of not getting into the real important races for the money they pay the UCI for the PT license, teams will be paying so they can be forced to ride meaningless races in China and Russia. Who would ever want to do that?
Must be nice up in that ivory tower.0 -
"...After a very constructive discussion UCI President Pat McQuaid thanked the organisers for their enthusiastic attendance and the clear messages of support for the concept of the UCI ProTour.
The organisers were united in encouraging the UCI to sustain its commitment in order to create, in the coming years, a global platform for organisers, teams and riders, and most importantly sponsors, despite resistance from certain vested interests in the sport."

"...Pat McQuaid and UCI plough on despite everything..."0 -
I wonder what Pat thinks 'vested interest' actually means...
vested interest : "a present right or title to a thing, which carries with it an existing right of alienation, even though the right to possession or enjoyment may be postponed to some uncertain time in the future. . . ."
- so he's basically saying ASO have non-contingent, non-forfeitable rights to run cycling events ?
Does Pat not realise that he / the UCI also have a vested interest ?
I expect he's too arrogant for it to even have occurred to him...
I also lovethe addition of events in Russia and China, which the organisers greeted with enthusiasm;
Yeah, I'll bet if I was organiser of some event in some provincial city in Siberia or Inner Mongolia I'd be overjoyed to be part of the ProTour.
After all, might be some team like Disco, deperate for a sponsor - any sponsor - who would send a squad...0
