Quick Tricross question
I noticed that the Tricross comes with Presta valves as standard (well, it comes with tubes that have Presta valves).
I prefer Schrader and when I get mine I'll be getting the tyres replaced at the time of purchase anyway so I was thinking of getting them to throw some Schraeder tubes on. But is the hole in the rim big enough to fit Schraeders through, or do you have to use the thinner Presta-valve tubes unless you get new wheels?

I'm not sure about the Tricross specifics, but often you can just file the hole a little bigger. Ask your bike shop.
I like Presta valves and have them on all of my bikes, so it's never been a problem for me, but I once saw my local bike shop do it to some one else's bike.0 -

I never said there was.
Why mess about with "car valve" ones then?0 -
I considered doing this on my last bike.
My LBS said it was a quick job, simply reaming out the current hole in the rim with a drill bit to suit.
Could be a DIY job if you have the right size drill bit!

Because it's my bike and I can set it up however I prefer.
And if it was simply a case of swapping tubes (note the "if" - that was my original question) then I would have done exactly that.
So I posted on here to ask. Two people gave me helpful answers. You weren't one of them.0 -

You don't have to act like an arse, I was only asking why you needed to do it.0 -

I don't need to do it and I never said I did. You seem to have made an assumption that I've got some fantastic reason why I simply have to have Schraeders.
The truth is that I just prefer them for no better reason than personal preference and I wondered if changing them on the bike I'm about to buy would require any work or it was a simple swap job that the shop could do at the same time as changing the tyres, which I'll be getting them to do anyway.
Since I'd rather not drill out the rims and risk weakening them just for something so trivial, I think I'll leave the Presta valves on.
If it had turned out that the holes were already big enough to fit Schraeders without drilling then I would probably have done it but I now know that's not the case.0
