Hello everyone:)

I am looking at buying a new bike and have upto 1k to spend on it. Im just trying to get back into the MTB side of things after being away for years.

There are sooo many bike's on the market these days that im struggling to find the right one. I am wanting to buy a XC bike and one of my friends reccomended a Charge duster high - this any good?? Or if you have any other bike's for me to have a look at please let me know:)

Another thing im looking at getting is a roof rack for the car to carry the bike's - what is the best set up and where is the best place to buy it??

Apologies for the longwinded questions...

Steven

Lots of choice in the £1k price range, more info on what you plan/like to ride will help narrow your options down.

As for carriers, Thule 591 Proride carriers & Thule aero roof bars, from http://www.skidrive.co.uk/cycle/index.p ... uwod3zXw8g, who are probably the cheapest on the web.

yeh, there are some good deals on 07 models now, so at this price you could score a nice full sus, or you could hit the ultra light hardtail for speed, if your a trail rider i reccomend full sus.

I was under the impression that a decent full sus would be out my price range - or is this false info??

Do you have an example of a good full sus and a light hardtail in my price range??

Thanks alot mate - it does help when you know what your looking for component wise, i dont as yet know what to look for but im reading alot as we speak:)

What benfit's would a full sus bike give over a top notch hardtail??

Benefits of a full suss: less fatigue on longer rides, faster downhill, possibly faster uphill.

Benefits of a hardtail, lighter, better spec, improves your riding skill.

Based on bikes at the same price point.

Once you have narrowed your options down then it's test ride time!

Seeing as im starting over again after a good few years away - it might be better to buy a good hardtail first off then upgrade to a good full suss once my riding is upto scratch??

My LBS stock's green bike's so i might go down for a test of them and also soeak to the fellow who runs it for more advice.

    Thanks once again folk's:)

Yeh a good hardtail will see you a year or two then you can look to move to a full sus platform and move alot of your gear across.

i have a soft spot for cannodale hardtails i think they make lovely frames, but also merlin malts specialised and so on
