Tandems

My Grandparents were keen walkers and cyclists. In their youth they owned a tandem and rode around much of the North of England, I gather. While growing up, I never saw anyone on a tandem and was sure that they were quite rare.
My Grandfather died 20-odd years ago and was survived by my Grandmother, who passed away in the mid-1990's. She was cremated, and on the way to the crematorium, whilst riding in the funeral cortege, a tandem carrying a man and a woman pulled alongside the hearse. It proceeded to keep pace for about a minute or so, stopping next to us at traffic lights. We turned off and they rode on....
My question is, what are the chances of this coincidence happening? How many tandems are there in the UK?

My father never rode a tandem and, by sheer coincidence, no tandems joined his funeral cortege. He did drive a car though and, weirdly, there were hundreds of them about. What are the chances of both those things happening?

Isn't the world a strange place full of mysterious forces we don't understand!

    another jacko,
Sorry to hear about your dad.
It's true that there are a lot of cars around, certainly more than tandems.
There are also a lot of kn*bheads about too, and its an unfortunate fact that you happen to be one of them.

Perhaps the tandem you saw turned off down the bypass...and followed your sense of humour.

    jacko,
Please don't reply again - you're not interested in the post and I have no wish to get into a battle of wits with an unarmed man.
    Hugs
