Giving Blood

Hello,
2 weeks ago i gave blood, as i do as often as i can, but it's the first time since I've started to ride again. I've had a great winter and spring, about 100 miles a week on average, give or take 10 miles here and there, and have been feeling stronger, and better able to do longer distances, how ever a few days after giving the blood i did a 100k ride I've done a few times, and just blew up half way round, i struggled back. i left it a few more days, and tried it again, i got round ok, but felt totally whacked when i got back.
could it be me giving the blood that has done it, and how long should it be before I'm back to the pre donation levels of fitness ?

yes, it's the blood donation that most likely caused your problems. it can take up to 6 weeks to restore the blood back to normal. If your cycling performance is important to you, it may be better to donate in the off season

Wow, that is a surprise, 6 weeks.
luckily my cycling performance is not that important to me, i only ride audax and for pleasure, but giving blood is important to me, so I'll have to take it easy for a few weeks after i think.
thanks for the reply though, it has made me feel a bit better about it.0
