Yes, swop the chainset and/or shifters.

You haven't given us much to go on, but the short answer is yes you can. It is much cheaper to change to a compact (as I did) as you will probably get away with just changing the chainset and bottom bracket if you go for the new hollowtech type (which I did).

If you go triple you will need to change the shifters, chainset, bb and front mech and possibly rear mech depending what you are running. It starts getting a bit expensive then, you may be better off selling your bike and buying a triple setup instead.

i have 8 speed sora and was a double.

Should of really switched the BB, but just changed the chainset, chainline is okay, but could be better, i didn't really know what i was doing at the time, but when the bike only cost me 170quid new (decathlon one), and picked up a compact for 20quid i didnt really want to spend more :)

As said, yes - I went from an 8-speed Double to an 8-speed 4550 HT Compact - same shifters, same front deraileur etc.
