Ii went out yesterday planning to get a good few miles behind me. The weather was lovely and the missus had given me a days pass.
But after just a few miles I was knackered. I took an energy bar as I started and had 2 bottles of drink made using the lucozade powder. None of it seemed to work. I have had a touch of man-flu but I've never felt so completely energy sapped. Any hill or slight incline seemed almost impossible. I even got overtaken by someone on an old MTB :oops: Mind you I managed to hitch a lift behind him fior a while 8) . I did about 15 miles and turned for home. 20 miles in all. Not exactly confidence building for the Chiltans 100 coming up (although I'm doing the 50 miles route :oops: )
I'm going to try again tonight (work permitting) but has anyone got any advice on decent energy bars and drinks? I haven't used the gels as I've heard that they can affect the stomach and I've not got the strongest of constitutions :?

Try the SIS Go stuff when it's real hot like yesterday - has electrolytes in it to replenish those you lost sweating - mind you, probably little effect on a ride as short as 15 miles. You could also mix your own with Dioralyte from the chemists for a cheaper solution.
Maybe you are still suffering ill effects of man flu. Were you well hydrated before the ride (ie was your pee clear (good) or dark orange (bad)) before the ride.0
