Need new chainring

Hi.

Well the biggest chain ring on my carrera is bent, dont know how it happened, but anyway I want to replace it, but I dont know what is the right one? I looked on the big chain ring and I see no numbers on it, its an RPM chain ring.

Will this fit?

I am really confused, I know its a compact on mine and the biggest chain ring can be detached, but this is for tripple? So maybe not?

    How do I know if that fits? My bike only has 9 speed.

    Yeh. You need a "compact chainring" for a "compact chainset", your big ring will probably be a 50t, and you can fit a 10speed chainring on a 8speed chainset.

    You need a 110mm BCD chainring, not a 130mm or 135mm. If you don't know what you are doing, get your bike shop to do it for you.

    I am but I would of thought they would charge more for a chainring than online.

    They probably would, but they'll fit it correctly.

    Well it would be cheaper to buy one online then go ask em to fit it surely?

    Maybe, go and ask your LBS how much they'll charge to change your chainring, you don't have to commit yourself there and then.

    Oh and if you buy online the LBS may charge to fit it, but if you buy the chainring from them they'll probably fit it for free. So the cost difference might be not be that big.

    Chain rings are not that expensive. You probably won't save any/much money by going online. Have the LBS manage the whole operation. Also, there are some cheaper brands available to bike shops that often don't make it onto the interweb....

    You've mentioned in other posts that you are thinking of joining a club.

    I'm certain there will be more than one budding bike mechanic in your new club, and they will be happy to show you how to install it for the price of a beer. (Yes, I realise you are probably under 18... but since when has that ever stopped anyone ;) ).
