It all depends on your head shape and budget. You must try them on for fit and looks.
  • Best looking is a personal question that only you can really answer (i happen to think my Giro Ionos looks pretty good as well as the specialised ones)

Best fitting, again that's down to you and your head shape/size.

What i can do is recommend the ionos if you're after one with excellent ventillation. i am a complete sweaty betty on the bike and i can't believe what a difference there is between it and my old Giro Monza - it really works.

wore my new ionos for the first time in a race yesterday. the vents must be bigger than i thought because i now have 2 sun marks on my forehead where the sun must have got through the vents....

have to say i didn't notice much difference, ventilation wise, over my older bell sweep.

They both look good to me especially the Ionis, although pricey. From what I've read here it seems that it is not something to buy online.

I have a Bell Ghisallo which I like a lot, it has excellent ventilation, and wasn't too pricey. I've bought bikes, shoes, and clothes online, but I would always buy a helmet in an LBS. Being able to try a number of different ones on and get the right fit is essential imo.

With safety equipment the best fit is one that fits regardless of brand etc. In the m/cycle world Suomy, Arai and Shoei all offer top quality lids but all have a slightly different fit/feel so it's best that see what works for you rather that what you'd rather be seen wearing. Once you've determined the best fitting brand, select the model from that their range you most like the aesthetics of.

That would be a fine idea if brands kept the same fitting consistent across their range. My old helmet is a medium Specialized S1 - however I don't fit in a medium Decibel or 2D and need a large, neither of which are that great a fit being rather loose. Instead I've ended up with a Limar Pro 104 in large which is a nice snug fit (and has the bonus of being a lot cheaper than similar helmets from the bigger companies).

Limar Pro 104 - lightest available - very comfortable.

But as ever you need to try before you buy

Where did you buy it? Would like to see one of these in the flesh as it were.
It's a little like wrestling a gorilla. You don't quit when you're tired. You quit when the gorilla is tired.

if its ventilation that you're after, nothing beats the Ionos, it is a pit pricey though

i got a specialized 2D for free a couple of months back - the only helmet I have owned for years

its very smart looking - the ventilation is awesome and it is so light you kind of forget it's there
    so I'd recommend it.

(I still barely wear it mind...)

I'm not THAT impressed with the Atmos, tried it tonight and it sits too low on my forehead. Have been fiddling for ages to get it to sit up a little, but its not perfect.....

I tried an Atmos on but found that it hurt the top of my head but perhaps if I had a full head of hair it would have been okay.

I have a Giro Atmos that I'm happy with. I have a slightly oval shaped head that just fits in a medium size (I'm 58cm), at first it was awkward to get it to fit right I like it low on my forehead but after a bit of adjusting here and there I got it fitted to how I want it. The only problem was was that it put some pressure on the front of my head when fitted this way but either I don't feel it anymore or my heads gotten used to it (I have hair). The ventilation is excellent and it's light so even in the hot weather we are having now it's comfortable and doesn't make my head sweat. A problem I have found is that with no bug net and big vents I seem to attract any nearby buzzing insects to buzz away angrily in my helmet :?

I have a strange shaped head

As a consequence of this, I have tried just about every helmet that is out there, including:

    Met Stradivarius
    Met Inferno
    Bell Sweep R
    Specialized Decibel
    Specialized 2D
    Rudy Project (various)
    Giro (various)
plus many more that elude my memory at the moment.

After trying them all (with the help of a very kind LBS) I finally ended up with the Giro Ionos.

The fit is nigh on perfect, ventialtion is spot on (it comes with an insert to cut down the ventilation if it is too much for you to handle, I went out without the insert in January and I developed what can only be described as an Ice Cream Headache).
In this hot weather we've had over the past few weeks the ventilation has been spot on.

IMHO the Ionos is one of the best looking helmets with the Met Stradivarius coming a close second.

The build quality of the Ionos is incredibly good, the straps are nice and comfortable with no chaffing, and the back clasp can be adjusted up and down to ensure a perfect head fit. It is very light too which is an added bonus.

I know that the Ionos is probably one of the most expensive helmets out there, but it works for me. You can't change your head shape (unless you were an Egyptian http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Head_flattening ) but you can find a helmet that fits if you are prepared to try on virtually every one that is out there.

A helmet is there to prevent damage to your head, so you would want the best for it, wouldn't you?
