Hi all,
I need some help with the Shimano M485 brakes fitted to my Giant Trance X2 (I've moved to NZ - and this is the Austalasian spec - http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-AU/bik ... 333/29470/ - It was equivilant to <£1000 UK at the time so I reckoned a good deal ). It's the first bike I've had with disks after a 2003 Kona in the UK
Anyway - all was fine after bedding the brakes in initially. But then I moved to the South IsIand had to remove wheels to ship. Reassembled and Rear brake fine - but the Front does not bite correctly at all. Whilst the Rear will lock with no problems, the Front will not - it slows the bike very gradually and an endo would be impossible.
I have studied the manual that came with the bike - see link for online copy - http://techdocs.shimano.com/media/techd ... 616405.pdf - but not clear on how to resolve, without LBS help, any ideas?
Many thanks,
Andy
PS. Someone on a NZ forum has mentioned a problem with this model of brake leaking oil from the calipers - Has advised a possible warranty issue - Any thoughts? (Bike is 2008 model bought in Jan.)

Check for leaks - they should be fairly obvious.
If oil has got on the rotor, or pads, from this or anywhere else, function will be greatly impaired. It will mean new pads and a cleaned rotor.0
