I did a round trip yesterday of 14.4 miles and the ascent was 1220 ft which judging from previous posts is quite hilly. I only averaged 14 mph and there was one short hill where I had to stand in my lowest gear to get up it. Is this reasonable performance for a casual rider? It looks like I'm stuck with hills as there is no where round here that is flatish. I never really noticed driving round in the car!

  • i'd say that was quite hilly, yes.

Speed seems respectable but i suppose it depends on lots of things like what bike you ride, wind conditions, how big (heavy) you are and how hard you were going.

i wouldn't worry about not avoiding the hills - if you have to eide them all the time you'll soon get better at them :)
