Ok probably not to every ones taste but its all I can afford at he moment so would apprechiate any tips.
Its an old giant bike that I have stripped down to the bare frame and rigid forks, I then sanded and then did some more sanding untill it was an acceptable smoothness.
I wiped it all down then applied 3 light coats of a black metal primer and at this stage it looks pretty cool.
In my time I have done bikes before and they have always looked like they were hand painted especialy when the lacqure is applied as it makes it look to shiny.
I`m after a black matt finish so would this mean I should not apply a top coat of lacqure and just apply a couple of extra coats of matt black?
I`d like something that does not scratch when you look at it so any tips would be apprechiated.

BBQ paint, £6 a can from B+Q.0

Lacquer protects the frame work.
Some places will powder coat your frame for about 30 quid - try bettablast in Newcastle.0 -
BBQ paint sounds a good idea.
Powder coating sounds cool but I want to do this myself, like a little project and i like seeing my handy work at the end of it.
I will post a few pics when its done next week.0 -
4 or 5 tins of primer plus 4 or 5 tins of colour plus a couple of tins of laquer plus various grades of wet and dry plus masking tape will mount up to a hefty amount, you can get it sprayed buy a pro for £100. trust me i've done similar things before and you will be suprised how the price goes up and up.0

Hammerite do their Smoothrite paint in matt and satin black. Tough as old boots. Not particularly cheap though, nearly £8 a can from Halfords but you'll have more than enough to do one frame. Don't forget to mask the bottom bracket threads!0 -
Cheers guys, i have gone for the hammerite satin spray.
At the end of the day its only a cheap giant bike that gets me to work and back so regardless of what it looks like at least it wont be nickable0 -
