Hi all,
I'm getting back in to cycling after a long absence and things have moved on a lot...
I've found some bargains and need some advice. I've already spent a good hour or so with the seach button but opinion seems divided and everyone seems happy with the bike they've already got, so I'm asking here...
Which of these do you prefer, and why?
- Decathlon Rockrider 8.1 - £500 (plus I would need a few quid on "regular" pedals)
- Chris Boardman Comp - £520 (after some discounts are applied)
Both seem very well specced (can't decide which is higher overall spec, too many differences - perhaps some kind soul could explain), but I get the feeling the boardman is a slightly better marque (or am I guilty of brand snobbery?)
I could probably stretch a little further, say to a Boardman Team (would be £700) if the concensus is that the extra money is really worth it to a beginner, but I get the impression that the ones above are especially good value.
BTW, if it helps I'm 6'6" with a 33" inside leg (ish) but after riding both the largest models around in a small circle I felt equally at home on both. Actually its been such a long absence I'm not sure I could tell much of a difference! Also, the halfords I went into seemed pretty decent (it was the one by Lakeside) and there is a Decathlon almost on my doorstep so no worries there.
Many thanks!
Mark

Both are specced very well. Your choice will come down to what feels best when sat on/testing the bike.
As for value, whre do you draw the line?! More money gets you a lighter bike, with better components. If you have it, spend it.0 -
boardman has better forks though, depends which one feels best, the best componentry bike may have your body too far set forward.... dont know until you tryif we need trees for the air we breathe..
then how come when we hit the tree it takes the air out of us??... ( trees...the selfish b***erds want it back!! )0 -
Seemed pretty unanimous and I was swaying towards it already, so I bought the boardman

What do you think of the Boardman? I've got the pro version on order (also from Lakeside!).0
