Kona Dawg Deluxe (2007) - review?

Now approaching 30 and having gone a little soft around the middle, I've decided to get back on a bike to do something about it!
I'm hoping to replace my old (and I mean old, it's a 1995!) Kona Lava Dome that I have owned since new with something a little more modern and I'm currently looking at an all-rounder fs like the Dawg Deluxe.

A few places have got the 2007 model in stock at the kind of budget I'm looking at (around £800 before savings through the UK 'Cyclescheme' system), but I can't find any reviews of this particular model, only the current 2008 bike - which I am aware has a different frame, slightly different gearset and forks and is way out of my budget.

Does anyone have links to a review of the 2007 bike they could point me to?

Cheers

John

    Cheers!

I think the Lava Dome will still hang up in the garage for a long time... it just keeps on going! :D

What would you be expecting for the Lava Dome?

I got an 06 dawg supreme frame which came of a demo bike and built it up.
I can't fault it. There are lighter 5 in bikes out there with better suspension systems etc, but it works. It does everything a I want. Awsome on singletrack, done 3 half foot drop on it (could probably go bigger, except fear kicks in). Still havn't done an all day epic ride on it yet, but hope to be putting some miles in, once I get my exams are out the way.
Some people love the dawg (me) others don't.

Thats my 2 pence on the dawg.

Ok, found some old photographs from circa 1996/97... so I must be around 17 in these pictures.... I've, erm, 'filled out' a little since then....

    Me...

My original spec Lava Dome, albeit with a Panaracer Magic rear tyre and some bar ends...

And I just took these this morning after cleaning the bike from a decent length ride yesterday (~12 miles), the first in a long long time. Boy it was really tiring, but it actually felt good!

The following 13 year old original parts remain:
    1995 Frame
    Mavic 236 wheels
STX rear hub & 7 speed cassette
    Kona front hub
    STX front shifter
    STX chainset
    Race Light seatpost & seat
mk1 DCD - not an original part obviously, but I fitted it in 1995!

    Upgrades:
    DMR V8 pedals
Threaded headset replaced with FSA Aheadset
Racelight stem replaced with ART front loading stem
Race Light bars replaced with Club Roost Go-Fast riser
Grips replaced with Avids (I think!)
Project Two forks replaced with RST 461 suspension fork
Race Light cantis replaced with Deore LX V-brakes
Race Light levers replaced with Deore LX levers
Gripshift SRT400 shifters replaced with STX-RC rapidfire pods
Rear 1995 LX mech replaced with 2000 Deore LX mech
    Continental Vertical tyres

I still have the original Race Light parts, alloy pedals, and, I think, even the Kona tyres!

I've spoken with JE James cycles and they've put aside one of their remaining 18" Dawg Deluxe bikes for me until I can get my Cyclescheme quote processed and send them the voucher.

It looks like the final cost is going to be around the £620 mark, a hell of a bike for the price!

    Thanks for the info.
