Bit of an over kill save your money and buy the 5 Pro and
change the contact points, and the fork if you need the
    adjustable travel.
I dont know what the changes are going to be, but you
could call Orange and ask for the Technical department.

But the frame and the rear Fox RP 23 is fab.

Not many shops keep the SE model in the shops ence the price.
and being the Pro 5 gets great reviews from the mags, you
dont get the reductions has you did on the 05-06 models.

The Five has always evolved rather than changed drastically... all you'll see for '09 is the new Fox 15mm axles... Besides, they're not going to risk breaking what's clearly not broken.

I also say go for the Pro...

Saying that Zero303 have you not seen the Strange Alpine 5 test model
    on the Orange web site.
I did e-mail Orange on this, to see if they was going to bring this out
    But they did not reply.
Was talking to a shop and they had seen it at Fort William
The bike looks like a scaled down light weight Patriot

So there maybe a frame change this or next year. Has you say and I know
Zero303 the five continues to evolve.

On paper the Five SE is an awesome bike. The pro gets awesome reviews and the SE is basically a slightly more blinged version of it. I would imagine its also slightly lighter, with higher spec components but I could be wrong :P

Its going to be a while until we get to see the '09 kit, it really depends on how desperate you are for a new rig!

Yeh, what is all this about new Fox forks? I have 140mm Fox 32 RLCs on my Meta 5.5.1 and I do sometimes feel I need something a bit stiffer but equally light on the front end and I hear Fox are going to do something to their quick release forks next year to make them stiffer - tell me more?

Leisure Lakes have the Alpine 5 in their latest catalogue so presumably it's available.

As for contacting Orange, the last 2 times I've bought a bike (2004 and 2007) I contacted them to aks a question about the bike I was interested in at the time. Tried 2 or 3 times on each occasion and got no reply. Decided I wouldn't buy from an ignorant (literally) company.

Did you ring or email them? I rang them the other day to check the build progress of my bike and go through with no problems.

I emailed them. But I don't see that's relevant, they should only put an e-mail address up if they're prepared to answer. And sure I could make an effort to extract an answer - I'm sure someone would talk to me if I drove up to Halifax - but it just smacks of contempt for the customer so I chose a different brand in both cases.

I agree it's not good but overall they do deal well with customers I think.

I've had no issues with contacting Orange, via email or phone.

They found the last Gringo in my size that had been delivered to a shop within 70 miles & also helped date a Clockwork that I was thinking of buying, just by the pictures alone.

Splasher I have the 5 AM But I say again But its a Strange Alpine 5 NOT released
and does NOT LOOK LIKE A 5 AM and maybe a new design for the 5 in the
    future.

I feel the reason they did not contact me on this has they have only started
selling the 5 AM has a more hard core All Mountain bike !

Apart from that I have not had any problems with Orange IE at there door step
or on the phone or by e-mail was only on the Strange Alpine 5.

Just noticed if you want to choose a colour for you new Orange it now costs
£ 100.00p Gone up by £ 50.00p I cant see the shops covering this.

Cant see why they charge has when i was at Orange HQ they only spray a batch of
10 frames per one colour for what I had seen in the racks.

Just increase the efficiency of spraying more frames and reduce the range
of un-wanted colours will also decrease the waiting time for receiving your
    new bike

Fox are introducing a 15mm Maxle style bolt through axle to the range as showcased at Sea Otter.
