Hi all,
Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere. I've searched high and low but can't find the answer.

Is there any Giro coverage or highlights on any freeview/digital channels.

Eurosport is not on freeview by all accounts :(

Nope nothing on Freeview/Digital, apart from Eurosport.

You can get Eurosport via a freeview box if you subscribe to TopUpTv, but I think you need a box with a slot, plus it ceases to be Freeview.

So instead I'll refer you to http://cyclingfans.com/ which lists other methods of watching and this thread http://www.bikeradar.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=12568381 where various options are being discussed in anticipation.

Forget TopupTV, total waste of time. I've had angry exchanges with them about their misleading advertising that they carry Eurosport... they only show it from 7.30am-11.30am.

Yeah I'd heard that it wasn't on 24hrs a day, but didn't realise it was quite that bad! Anyway I'm quite happy with watching the Rai stream on the Giro, adds to the authenticity of it all 8)

No, that has virtually (exactly?) the same channels as Freeview - http://www.freesat.co.uk/index.php?page=whatson.Main

The only way to get Eurosport is with a Sky package.

I read it doesn't have Five and the like but that they were coming soon. It's jumping from 80 to a couple of hundred channels by the end of the year.

http://cyclingfans.com/ is a lifesaver! LOL! Well, maybe not a lifesaver, but they sure do help when you're looking for someplace to watch live race coverage.

In the past I've just watched it via the RAI (Italian TV) web link. They will show at least the last couple of hours of every stage and I've never had a problem connecting. No doubt cyclingfans will flag up the precise link shortly.

It depends whether Eurosport are doing any streaming or not. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. I guess no-one knows atm. Again, you'll find all the info on cyclingfans tomorrow.

Normally you can at least can English language audio from Eurosport (I say normally, by which I mean what Eurosport perceive as 'normal') which you can open in your browser. Then open the RAI stream in media player, mute that, crank up Harmon and Kelly and sit back and enjoy....well at least until you realise the pictures and words are now out of sync.

this can be fixed if you can listen to the eurosport steam in realplayer since it allows the stream to be pause and rewound (until the point you started listening) so you listen for a few minutes try and estimate how much delay there is and then sync the audio and video streams up, this will only work if the video steam if the one which has the greater delay.

I may be a bit odd, but i quite like watching it on a foreign channel. Who cares if i can't understand what they are saying, a lot of the time its better than listening to the guys on eurosport.

maybe its the more exotic feel ha ha!

Eurosport is still broadcast on the Astra Satellite, just need an old style dish and box, glad I didn't give mine up when we went digital.

I agree. Why bother faffing about trying to sync the English audio with the RAI visuals? If you know anything of the race and the competitors then listening to the witterings of Eurosport commentators is hardly essential – and you might pick up some Italian too.

    Amen to that!
Especially having to listen to Sean Kelly!! The man just makes everything sound so DULL.

Sadly sometimes he turns up on the RAI feed, speaking Italian, in that same boring tone.

For the benefit of viewers of the RAI stream, it may be owrth compiling a list of Italian cycling terms to enhance their enjoyment of the coverage.
    Heres a few to start:-

Rosa - pink, but in a macho way and not as you'd normally associate with a group of skinny, shaven, lycra-clad men

Tranquilo - I'm currently bricking it that Anne Gripper and hew SWAT team will abseil down my chimney and find me transfusing yeti blood

Bastardo - "I have been beaten by the better, younger rider and accept my defeat with dignity" see also "Simoni"

Simoni - the Italian for "Victor Meldrew"

    Ignorante - See above

fuga - breakaway, as in "I'm going to fuga'ff up the road

    tifoso - chianti-soaked nutbag

    grupetto - Pinnochio's father
'This week I 'ave been mostly been climbing like Basso - Shirley Basso.'

Working for me following the link from Cycling Fans if that's any help. Only way to watch the Giro is with Italian commentary 8)

On a side note, does Eurosport still have Christy Anderson doing her horrendous mid stage predictions from some cafe she's stopped off in?

I got it eventually. It's ok with the volume down but with the UK Eurosport commentary.

She hasn't been on ES for years! They've had quite a bit of Emma Davies in recent years (mainly for the Tour and the Worlds) and she's actually pretty good as a commentator.

I haven't seen Eurosport coverage of the Giro since 2005, and she was my main memory* of that year's race haha.

    *maybe a slight exaggeration!

You do all realise the Eurosport have no live coverage of the Plan de Corones time-trial, feed, tv or otherwise?
Since they are swopping coverage to Eurosport 2, from next Sunday, live coverage of the mountain stages aren't due to start until 4pm CET, so I think you may find, your only option is RAi streaming.

Crusty Anderson? Couldn't predict that the Sun rises in the morning. I could never work out how see managed to talk to 180 riders, every morning, in half an hour. Here reports from them, were as much guess work as her predictions. A total Bullshit artist.
