Intermittent fault on X9 shifters

When changing up the lever gets stuck and the rear mech doesnt move, if you push the front lever to go down a gear this frees everything up and shifters work fine again. the problem has occured twice in the last 100 or so shifts and all the other shifts have been precise with no obvious problem. When the lever get stuck its as if it's stuck fully forward as there is no movement in it until you push to come down.
Any idea what may be causing the problem?
The bike is new so I will be taking it back, however it's a boardman so I'd rather do a bit of investigating myself as to what it could or could not be rather than relying soley on Halfords diagnosis

what gear does it happen in? changing from which to which?
what is the cable tension like?"Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Its happened in two gears. The first time was on the 6th sprocket running from the large front cog, the 2nd time it occured was on the 1st sprocket running from the middle cog. The cable tension feels okay and there doesnt seem to be anything else, the only other point that may be related is the rear mech somtimes feels a bit slow (or rather not as quick) when changing up from the 7th cog through to the 9th.I found it hard, its was hard to find, oh well whatever nevermind.

Just an idea. A similar thing happened to my X0 rear shifter after a crash. Turned out the shifter was too close to the brake leaver so the leaver was pushing down on top of the shifter, squeezing it a bit. Just lifting the leaver sligtly fixed it. Worth checking.0

i think this is a common problem with sram shifters my x7's got so bad i changed the whole lot to xt which was expensive but they have been excellent ever since. There have been quite a few threads on here about sram shifters in the past, one thing was grit gets in the shifters[ i used to wash my bike upside down and i noticed the grommits for replacing the cables were missing so maybe they were getting excess crud in them ] and wears the coating off the inner plates which is what happened to mine, i used to take them to bits, clean and grease them and they would be fine but as yours is a new bike i would take it back to the shop and they should replace them , a mate i ride with had the problem on his x5's on his new bike and the shop changed them and they have been okBianchi Via Nirone 7 Alu/Carbon, 2011
