Sounds as if pure luck that no one killed - wrong word, murdered nearer the mark.

    Bad, BAD.

It's terrible that drivers feel it's fine to take out their issues by endangering cyclists lives, the problem is that it is not an isolated case - it's happened to most of us.

I hope all those involved make a fast and speedy recovery and they catch the driver before he kills someone!

Has it? I don't know anyone who has been deliberately targeted by a driver. Safety put at risk by careless or selfish driving, yes. Hit by ditto, yes. Deliberately, no.

What I have found equally (more?) disturbing is the various comments on net news sites here about how the cyclists "deserved it" and how people were shouting and jeering as they drove past the injured.

Having said that on the whole I'd say the level of abuse one gets in sydney is comparable with london really, I have had a few more instances of people shouting random abuse but thats all it is, I can generally catch them up at traffic lights and slash their tyres (just in my head of course).

All the same old sh1te about "road tax" and "use the cycle path" .

I tried to figure out how an engine problem could cause sudden braking or for that matter for him to think the best course of action is sudden braking.

When I had a cut out due to fuel line blockage at 70 in the outside lane of a dual carriageway I knocked it out of gear and tried to restart it while watching for a gap to drift back to the left and get off the road. Dunnoh about an autobox though.

If it was genuinely a backfire while switching from PEtrol to LPG which is possible if there was a buold up of lpg followed by nothing (hence the cut out) but blowing the air filter off?
