I use there shorts (pro version IIRC) around £40, well worth it.

I have some De Marchi contour plus bibs in their 3rd year now, still going strong. The matte / slightly thicker weight lycra seems very hardwearing, and the pad is as comfy as on day one.

I've just bought the contour bib shorts. It was these or Assos. Seem to be really well thought out and made. The pad is seamless and seems very good (in fact I've heard that the pads are in fact made by the same company for Assos. Don't know if true though)

I'd try them on for size if you can. I notice some websites have some batty sizing charts which don't match up with the ones on the DeMarchi website.

The only thing you don't get is a little string bag for washing them in.

Why do you want to get in a little string bag when you are doing your washing?

Stops the shorts getting all bobbled up, by getting stuck to things with lycra on that you have put in the wash.

The De Marchi site says that at just over 5' 10" I need a large but the LBS says I need medium. They both feel like they fit but the M is much tighter. Any suggestions?

I'd have thought large. I'm 5' 8" and have medium and they are tight over the shoulders (and I'd say noticeable even in riding position).

I'm 5'11 and ignore the waist measurement for bibs following the advice from TriUK, and go for height so Large is what I use, despite only a 30" waist.

I have been cycling about 12 years now and have only ever bought two brands of cycling shorts lusso which were crap after a few washes, and DeMarchi which i have bought time and again, they are very well made and very very comfortable even on 100 mile spins,
imo the contour plus bib shorts are the best.

I would have bought them except for the new 2008 red elastic bands at the bottom of the legs. Gives them the look of something you might buy in Anne Summers. Apart from that they fitted well and were nice and long.

Why do clothing manufacturers do that? I agree, I wouldn't buy them either. You might be lucky and find a bike shop with 2007 stock (or online?)

Contour Plus are still black/black or red/black band. It's the (more expensive) evo with the Anne Summers look red band.
