Hi there, been out of the saddle for a few years so need a bit of advice on a new bike and equipment.

I've been looking at the Wilier range, both the Mortirolo & Izoard in Centaur form - these stretch my budget though, has anyone got opinions on these bikes? Is the Izoard worth the £100/200 over the Mortirolo? Would the XXL size be suitable for someone 6'4"?

What other bikes would you recommend for this price?

Was thinking of getting it from epic - anyone dealt with them before? Good service?

Also, recommendations for a wireless computer (~£30), peddles, shoes (~£100) and decent brands of shorts/bibs and jerseys would be excellent.

Thanks :D

a mate recently spent 1500 on a new carbon roadie and went for the Trek Madone in the end, after trying a few.

The Williers are nice though, and well specced.

Try a few - it's the only way.

cannot fault the mortirolo with carbon centaur. Rides superbly, climbs like a dream and all the wiliers look beautiful..............over-priced?? not a chance, Italian quality costs a bit more but well worth it.

Ii'm 6'2" and went with the xl, 57cm tt with 120mm stem.....perfect for me.

Also got it mail-order from epic, cannot fault their service.
    Manchester wheelers

    100m Yeah right.
  • Hi

I have just got an Izoard Centaur and it's a size XL 58cm. I am 6ft 1 with 31 cm inside leg. I test rode both the Izoard and Mortirolo, the Izoard is stiffer in the bottom bracket area and seat tube. As such, it is extremely quick off the line and fantastic on the hills.

The Mortirolo was also a great bike, just felt a little softer and not as sporty. In the end, i would have bought either, but my budget allowed for an Izoard.

If you want a Mortirolo, you can get them for around £1250 with Veloce, possibly last years model, but the only difference is the paintwork (subtle differences in how much of the carbon weave you can see).

Having researched my purchase thoroughly, I can guarnatee that you would not be dissapointed with a Wilier. feel free to PM mee if you need any more in depth info. I also found a review here http://www.roadcyclinguk.com/news/article/mps/uan/3173 and posted my own mini review here http://www.roadcyclinguk.com/review/rev ... /sp/#61795

As for computers, i have a Cateye Strada Wireless, which is superb and very compact.
Shoes - Specialized BG Comp Road (fitted for me - I have knee issues)

Bottom line - Have a test ride, don't belive all of the dealers' 'flannel' - they all have their own agenda's -and do your research.

    good luck

Was told there was a backlog on the Wilier Izoard and also due to euro/pound exchange rate couldn't be verified a price until the order was placed in the system. So looking at a Cervelo instead and building up that frame with Campag.
The Madone is a good bike at its pricepoint, but I've got all Campag stuff. Some people reckon the Lemond frames/bikes may be sold off a bit cheaper as Trek and Lemond have parted company.

I have a Mortirolo with Chorus groupset.

It's a great bike. It has done everything I've asked of it, but as a new road cyclist I've nothing to compare it to.

The bike has a few set-up niggles and I have had to replace the bearings in the headset already. However, the frame seems great. I have some rubbing between my front wheel and the brake when climbing with power, but I think I juest need to learn to set it up correctly.

I think the wife might prefer 31cm centimeters.
