More Comfort and More Grip in the Wet - Tyres

I recently changed from Vittoria Rubinos to some more expensive Specialised Armadillo All-Condition Elite tyres. I did this for two reasons, firstly for better puncture protection and secondly for more wet weather grip.
Both of my objectives were met, grip is very good in the wet and no punctures (so far). The old Rubinos were very slippy in the wet.
However, these new tyres are painful to ride on. I get shaken apart and the road surface feels like a broken third world dirty track. This is not only uncomfortable but slows me down and takes a lot of pleasure out of the ride.
So if i accept i'll have to reduce my puncture protection for more comfort but don't want to slide in the wet what tyres should i go for? This is for my winter/wet weather/commuter bike so these are the main uses of the tyre. Puncture protection is a bonus. I should also add that my bike will only barely accept 25mm tyres with mudguards
Any ideas/experiences anyone can share? I've read some threads but can't find much about wet weather performance or comfort in particular. The Conti Ultra Gatorskins are an obvious suggestion but I've heard reports they're a bit slippery when wet.
Cheers

lower the pressure?0

I tried that and...
The elites are rough at anything above 100psi and being 23mm stating minimum of 100psi it's wise to keep them above. I think the very thick side walls gives the harsh ride. Lowering the pressure of the rubinos didn't seem to help the grip much just slowed me down a bit.M_G0 -
I can highly recommend Schwalbe Stelvio Evolution - grippy, fast and smooth. Sadly not cheap at £50 a pair, but you can't have everything.0

Schwalbe Stelvio Evolutions are no more that the Specialised tyres I have at present and don't like so i'm not too concerned at that price. I'll take a look at them, cheers.M_G0

I have the Specialised Armadillo All-Condition Elite tyres and pump them up to 120 PSI. The ride does start hard but as they deflate and get down to 100 PSI they are really fast and give great grip. The ride is still hard but TBH in London show me a road that is smooth :twisted:0

HI there.
If you're looking for a faster wet weather tyre then I can recommend Michelin Pro Grip.

I had michelin pro's and although the grip was good, they are prone to cuts, I had 2 punctures in a week and many cuts and that was a new tyre !!0

ow - do you mean michelin pro's or Michelin Pro Grip? The pro's do cut quite easily, but my set of Pro grips has lasted pretty well.0

Michelin krylion carbon. i use them. ok some people are hyper picky about them tho they are a training tyre. and its going to be bumpy if your on a road that could rival the paris roubaix. sorry you will be hard pressed to get a pair anytime soon tho.0
